Sevenoaks 25: IB Art Exhibition | Page 9

Rosie Heydorn
My work began with an exploration of disrupted realism for my portrait project . I was most intrigued by the techniques used and how abstraction and detail could be combined , which inspired my creative process . When handling paint , I experimented with thin and thick layers to add depth , focus and texture to my paintings .
Initially , I wanted to explore how moods and atmospheres can be conveyed in landscapes , but as my work developed I became more interested in the effect of light shown in natural forms . My depiction of clouds makes up a large portion of my exhibition , because of their display of light , shadow and colour in unpredictable ways , creating different moods with their unique compositions .
As my work became a study of light I also investigated the abstraction of nature using close-up images of various scales , allowing multiple interpretations of these works . From this study of light , I also observed the change and continuity experienced in specific locations , to display changes in light from different times of day and different seasons . My work can therefore be viewed as a chronological collection of views and observations throughout my IB Art course .
