Robert Wallace
I began by focusing on the human form and its inherent ability to convey immeasurable emotions that strike us deep in our cores . I wondered whether I could portray the human form in such a way as to create a sense of ambiguity and intangible emotions . In the process , I tried to improve my confidence in mixed media as well as scale , to give my work more scope .
As I worked , I was undergoing personal change . Through trying to better my personal character I began to pay closer attention to the world around me . By chance I had a camera with me during some school events and I began to take pictures . Through this process I started to see the beauty in small , seemingly mundane moments , the kind of beauty not always seen at first glance . I began to shift my work accordingly and my project became more and more about the beauty of all that is around us , that we take for granted and don ’ t give a second glance .
My hope is that through appreciating all these seemingly mundane things , we may fall more in love with life and with that which usually passes us by . My work still centres upon people and the human form , acknowledging how wonderful and beautiful people are . Sometimes it ’ s hard to notice and easily forgotten . I hope my work allows you to see these people through my lens , realising that if they have their individual beauty , then we too must be beautiful .
