The holidays are a time to spend with friends and family. That does not mean you cannot still stay involved and volunteer. There are many ways to volunteer in your hometown. Call your local March of Dimes chapter and see if they need any help or if they have any projects taking place. To stay involved over the holiday volunteer places you helped at while you were in high school. It’s always nice to reconnect with people and visit places you haven’t been to in a while. During the holiday there are many ways to help others. See if there are any local soup kitchens that may need some extra help or food pantries with an influx of food to sort through. Also tell family and friends about the exciting service projects you’ve done throughout the year so far; inform them of the different Preferred Charities and Service Partners. Advocacy is always a way to help different organization spread their mission and support for their cause. These are some ways to stay involved during the holidays.

After the winter break it can be hard to get your club up and going again. Start the semester out by having another call out meeting. This can be similar to the meeting you had in the fall. Also put posters up around campus again. Although you will have returning members there may be other people on campus looking to get involved now; this is a good way to catch their eyes. Another idea is to encourage members to invite their friends who do not already attend Circle K. These are just a few ideas to get your semester started.

As many of you know I just spent this past semester in Cheltenham, England studying abroad. While I was there I got to learn about a different country and live in another culture. I also go to travel a lot. My biggest adventure was going to Paris, France and climbing the Eiffel Tower. Although I loved being in England I did miss being at home and volunteering with my fellow Circle members. Now that I have returned I am excited to start volunteering again! When I go back to Manchester University I will be the president of my home club and continue to volunteer and encourage others to do so. As for the March of Dimes the start of the New Year will be a time to start focusing on March for Babies, which takes place all over the country between March and April. March for Babies is the March of Dime’s biggest fundraisers of the year. Although it isn’t until March your club can start to think about different ways to get involved. It is never too early to start fundraising for this event. You can also contact your local chapter and tell them you want to be involved in this years March for Babies event. Ask then how you can help with the event. Ask if they need volunteers before the event or even the day of the event. Keep an eye out for more information regarding March for Babies! I hope you and your family have a good holiday season and a happy New Year!
