Begin by rolling out the fondant so that you can cut it to the appropriate size for covering the top of each cake tier.

To prepare each tier, evenly spread solite shortening on the top. If you don ' t have shortening, a light spread of water will work as an alternative.

Position each round piece of fondant on top of the tiers, then use your fondant smoother to ensure it adheres well.
Step 12 Step 13 Create a hole in the fondant, simply insert a dowel.
Using a sharp Exacto knife or box cutter blade, carefully trim the edges of the top fondant, using the cake tier as a guide. Repeat this process for the other two tiers.
