look forward to seeing how they progress as they turn their hands to some of the national competitions. There were also winning seasons for the second, U15 and U14 boys’ teams.
On the girls’ side the 1st team have had another stellar season, including a dominant first ever win against the American School in London. This victory is a real marker of the progress of the programme, as in our first ever fixture against them in 2021 the team won a total of only 15 points combined across three sets. The 2nd VI, U15 and U14 teams all enjoyed winning seasons too.
On the beach Sevenoaks won three out seven divisions at the Cobham Pairs tournament, with Freya Aspinall and Sophia Coddington also making the semi-final of the top division. At the Brighton four-aside tournament the boys’ team finished second for the third year in a row, and the girls retained their title from last year, going undefeated throughout the day.

One particular game I can remember from this season is Sevenoaks vs ACS Cobham in the Michaelmas term. Best game we’ ve played all year! Not just through the skill level of play, but the dedication and mental grit that it took to hold our own against them. Every point needed to be won with collaboration and skill, and the score was neck and neck throughout the entire game. Their team had a plethora of hitters with the ability to hit amazing spikes, which made defence incredibly intense. The individual performances from both our frontcourt and backcourt were phenomenal. I think managing to win that game 2-1, despite the insane pressure from the opposition, was definitely the highlight of the volleyball year.
In light of our recent positive success, I can confidently say that the team’ s biggest improvement this season has been our collaboration and chemistry. Despite facing challenging opponents, we were able to play strongly as an interconnected team which brought us through time and again. I think the effort put in by both the boys and the coaches has been the driver of our success, from waking up for early morning training to sacrificing a few extra hours for a Saturday game. Through these commitments, I’ ve seen every person on the team improve their volleyball ability and quality of play. I look forward to playing volleyball at Sevenoaks next year and hope that our dedication and mindset can continue into the next season, where we will continue to face tough opponents.
