CRICKET

A sunny summer of cricket saw the U13 girls crowned national T20 champions!

The Summer term was the busiest cricket season in a number of years due to the incredible weather we were blessed with.
There is only one place to start and that is with our U13 girls, who became School Sports Magazine T20 national champions. They played superbly all season, winning games against Sutton Valence, St Lawrence College, City of London Freemen’ s, Epsom College and Guildford High School in the south-east region. That brought us to national finals day where we played St Swithun’ s School in the semi-final. St Swithun’ s got off to a fast start, but we fought back to take regular wickets and restrict them to 127 off their 20 overs, Bella Heselden taking 3 for 18. We chased this down in the 10th over to win by 10 wickets with Chloe Selvey-Clinton( 52 *) and Emily Tarr( 43 *) putting the bowlers to the sword.
In the final, Stamford School batted first and never really recovered from losing early wickets. They finished on 71 and Eva Vitorino Hiietamm( 48 *) and Bella Heselden( 15 *) finished the game in the seventh over. To win both games in the national finals by 10 wickets is testament to how good this team really is.
The U13 girls were also indoor eights runners-up and won the Reigate Sixes tournament for a second time in three years. A huge congratulations to the girls on a fantastic season.
The U15A boys made it to the semi-final of the Kent Schools Cricket Association Miskin Cup, with good wins over Ravens Wood, Norton Knatchbull and Sutton Valence. They lost a tight game to Kent College, Canterbury, where the boys fought all the way to the end.
The 1st XI boys had a good start to the season with a win in the first round of the U18 national T20 against Maidstone Grammar. They managed friendly wins against St Lawrence College and an Indian touring side but otherwise struggled with the bat. Harry House, the only person to pass the half-century mark all season, scored a century against St Lawrence College. James Palmer, with 4 for 20 against King’ s Canterbury, and Karam Kandhari, with 4 for 25 against The Lawrence School( India), were the pick of the bowlers. Siddhant Shankar led from the front with both bat and ball, making key contributions throughout the season.
Thank you to all the students who represented the school this summer and to all the staff who put in huge amounts of effort to make the season an enjoyable one for everyone involved, particularly the Grounds staff and Catering team who facilitated so many fixtures.
