CAN DO 5
From tear-jerking solos to jazzy group numbers, the teachers had it all.
The Can Do concert was single handedly my favourite event of the year. From tear-jerking solos to jazzy group numbers, the teachers had it all. The concert is run every four years in support of Mind, a UK charity which advocates for good mental health for all.
This year’ s concert was organised by the fabulous Mr Smith, Mr Palmer and Mr Rands-Webb who did an amazing job. Hosted by the amazing Mr de May and Tina Argent( who looked very much like Mr Oberti Oddi...), the night was an absolute feast. Turning to the acts from throughout the night, the programme started with a big group number:‘ This is the Greatest Show’. Ms Eilert performed a beautiful solo which she translated from Italian into English so we could understand the beauty of its lyrics. Then we couldn’ t forget the unique parody of‘ Bohemian Rapsody’
( arranged by Dr Ives) used to convey the woes of teaching from wi-fi crashes to endless marking. And it would be a shame not to credit the incredible instrumentals and harmonising during the various performances, in particular the crowd favourite cover of‘ I Want it That Way’, featuring Mr Hardy, Mr Lidiard, Dr Martin, Mr MacBain and Mr Harvey.
It would also be a crime not to mention the epic ABBA cover of‘ Take a Chance on Me’ with sparkly flared costumes and group dance numbers performed by a huge number of friendly faces such as Miss Hill and Mrs Hargreaves. Not to leave out a personal alltime favourite‘ God Only Knows’ by the Beach Boys performed by the barbershop quartet of Dr Martin, Mr MacBain, Mr Harvey and Mr Hollingbury. And finally the big finale of‘ Call Me Maybe’ which was a large group effort from all the teachers. This is just a flavour of the acts from the night – there were many more, each as wonderful as the next. The combination of the teachers’ symphonic singing, solos and song choices
