GIVING BACK
OUR THANKS to all the Old Sennockians who have kindly shared their stories, expertise and wisdom during the past academic year, enriching a Sevenoaks education for the benefit of our students.
Dr Genevieve Hudson( OS 1994), Deputy CEO at Social Investment Business, gave a lecture on the subject of Better Democracy and Revitalising Representation. She covered different political ideologies and the kind of state being built in Britain.
We had our largest group of volunteers for the annual Careers Fair, with over 100 alumni and parents giving their time to speak with students about future choices. An even greater number of sectors and industries were represented this year, including aviation, biopharmaceuticals, charities, civil engineering, cyber security, fintech, government, healthcare, science, technology, venture capital and veterinary medicine.
It was a warm welcome back for seven OS from the Classes of 2014 to 2019 who sat on the Careers Beyond University Panel. Sophie Simpson( OS 2014), Oliver Cros( OS 2015), Tristan Flint( OS 2016), Eloise Robson( OS 2016), Roshan Ruprai( OS 2016), Charlie Hewlett( OS 2019) and Hannah Saint( OS 2019) returned to share their experience of life after Sevenoaks and inspired the Lower Sixth to think positively and proactively about their futures. The discussion was wide-ranging, from the relationship between university and professional life to a typical day at work, reflections on the value of the IB and a university degree, and the role of transferable skills. The honesty and clarity with which each panellist shared their story was hugely appreciated by students and staff alike, and they proved positive and thoughtful role models.
Our final acknowledgement goes to all the OS who kindly contributed their story to the new edition of Continuum, the school’ s alternative prospectus. You can read the collection of quirky stories about Sevenoaks and its students, which includes tales from a former secret agent, an Olympic swimmer and a primate conservationist, on the school website.
