VOLLEYBALL

An exciting sport which has rapidly become a huge success for Sevenoaks .

Volleyball has enjoyed its first year as a sport for Years 9-13 , with over 80 fixtures played across 10 teams .
The girls ’ teams have enjoyed an excellent season with the 1st team only losing two of their regular season fixtures , both 2-1 defeats against ACS Cobham and ASL . The standout win was a 3-0 victory against the then undefeated TASIS team in the last fixture of the Michaelmas season . The U14 team had an undefeated season against their age group including victories against the Brighton 1st team and Burgess Hill U16s . The U15 girls ’ main focus was the Volleyball England nationals which took place over three rounds in the Lent term against club teams from across the country . The squad was heavily made up of U14 girls who will have benefited hugely from the experience of competing at this level . The girls ranked 14th out of 21 teams , enjoying some tight games against the top teams in the country .
The boys ’ 1st team has had a developmental season with many of the team being drawn from Year 11 . They worked well together and the higher level of competition has led their skills to develop rapidly ; they are excited about the opportunities ahead next year . The highlights of the season included welcoming back two Old Sennockians for a game against the LSE 1st team and victory at the Sevenoaks Outdoor Tournament , winning the final 25-23 against Epsom College . Promisingly , the U14 boys won four out of five of their games across the season .
In the final weeks of the academic year , our teams had a very successful day at the Brighton beach volleyball tournament . The boys ’ 1st team came second on points difference in a very tightly contested tournament , with the B team securing a creditable mid-table finish . On the girls ’ side the B team , made up of five Year 9s and a Year 10 finished an excellent third . However , the outstanding performance was the 1st team taking first place , winning all their matches and taking 19 out of the 21 sets played .
