SHOOTING

Shooting fosters both impressive performances and strong camaraderie as it continues to expand and diversify its offering .

This year , we welcomed over 65 students to the club , with more than ever choosing it as their sports option . This included 29 first-time shooters who have taken to the basics quickly and are already competing alongside some of the best in the school . Almost all club members represented the school as part of the BSSRA league teams , shooting competition cards every week . Congratulations to all those who competed and a special congratulations to our C team for winning their division . Five members shot their first outdoor competition in November at the English Schools Championship , and three more at the British Schools Championship in December . Our club ’ s top shooter , Yaroslav Bobko , was also selected to represent England in the Schools Home Countries match .
As always , the club ’ s annual Henderson-Thynne trophy , a knockout bracket style competition between all the club ’ s shooters , saw some amazing matches , notably Charlene Wong beating her personal best with an impressive 96 . However , in the end , it was Rafe Wormsley who came out on top as this year ’ s club champion against Tracy Wang .
The club continues to diversify its offerings with alternative shooting disciplines : fullbore , air rifle and three positions . Many members took to air rifle quickly for a fresh , Olympic style of shooting and entered the British Shooting School Championships . We hope that next year more members will also compete in both three positions and fullbore .
Another new addition to the club this year was the introduction of time-limit cards . These have been a fan-favourite among many of the students , forcing them to put 10 shots on the target within 90 seconds . This has given us all much to learn about the importance of your position for regular cards .
Besides the amazing statistics and performances from all parts of the club , many have found the range to be a friendly place for all . While shooting can be an individual sport , the team groups and camaraderie within our club brings students together to look beyond accolades and see the value of teamwork , dedication , open-mindedness and passion .
