SHOOTING
In another thrilling edition of the Henderson-Thynne trophy , last year ’ s runner-up Yaro went one step further to claim the trophy , triumphing over Conrad in a brilliant final as other students cheered them on . We look forward to seeing if Yaro will be able to be the first person to retain the title or if a new face will rise to the occasion .

Sevenoaks School shooting club has made leaps and bounds , with students of all year groups getting involved , having fun , and performing at the highest levels .

This year , we welcomed a total of 74 students across the school in our sport and hobby shooting clubs . Most of these represented the school as part of our BSSRA league teams . Congratulations to all who participated as everyone performed admirably , with our A team for the Summer term ( Yaro Bobko , Conrad Scheibye , Helen Otto , Rafe Wormlsey , Emily Chiaia- Miller ) winning Division Two by a comfortable margin . Due to Yaro ’ s fantastic shooting in the Michaelmas term , he was selected by the England captain to shoot for the England Schools A Team in the home countries international , where he shot a tidy 194 / 200 which helped England to top the rankings .
A new regular on the calendar is the Kent Schools matches , where Sevenoaks battles with close rival Tonbridge . Often , our shooters came out on top and secured the victories . We also entered the British and English schools championships , where we had great success , with Alex Fleming topping the Sevenoaks scoresheet , placing fourth in the English and fifth in the British competitions . Helen also picked up a top ten finish in the British competition . These two , along with Rafe and Yaro , collected the bronze medal in the quartets , which was a fantastic result considering the huge number of entries to the championships ( 170 students from across the UK ).
We set up an air rifle division of the club , in a drive to push towards the Olympic style of shooting and broadening the opportunities for the students . Next year we will keep developing this new discipline , while also restarting another casualty of the pandemic , fullbore shooting !
Whilst the results we obtain are brilliant , and improving each year , it is important to recognise that our shooting club ’ s essence extends beyond numbers and accolades . The true measure of our success lies in the dedication , sportsmanship and camaraderie that permeate every aspect of our community .
