SAILING
With our usual calendar of events returning , sailing continues to be a very popular sport at Sevenoaks .
We began the school year with a very special visit from newly crowned Olympic gold medallist Eilidh McIntyre , who spent an afternoon on the water with our senior sailors before a Q & A session on shore where she very kindly passed her gold medal around .
We then had our first major competition of the year with a fifth place finish for our U19 team at the RYA Youth and Junior Team Racing at Oxford . For a completely new first team this was a promising start . The school then took part in the BSDRA Keelboat Championships for the first time where the senior team placed eighth .
Our juniors were back on the RS Feva circuit with Year 9 and 10 sailors taking part at the Winter Championships , Inland Championships , National Championships and finally culminating in seven boats attending the World Championships at Weymouth in July , with 180 boats from 12 countries competing . Rosie Heydorn and Allegra Fleming finished 23rd in the Silver Fleet , Kaz Burt and Sam Ide took second overall in the Bronze Fleet . Rosie and Allegra also won the Bough Beech Feva Open .
The seniors had a successful team racing season which began by winning the Brunel University event the Brunel Badger , defeating a number of university and club teams . During the school season in the Summer term they achieved third place at the Thames
