The Weald and Downland Invitational Cup was
hosted by Tonbridge School again this year. It was
a mixed gala across three age groups with eight
schools taking part. The inter boys retained the
shield for their age group. Competition in the other
age groups was very strong, resulting in some close
finishes and fierce racing.
The Bath and Otter Invitational Cup once again
took us to the London Aquatic Centre, with teams
coming from as far afield as Guernsey, Belfast and
Aberdeen. The competition was comprised of the
fastest competitors from any year group competing
in freestyle and medley relays. The boys came 12th in
freestyle and 16th in medley out of 76 schools. The
girls went one better with 11th in medley and 18th
in freestyle. The girls only narrowly missed out on a
top ten finish and a place in the final.
The final gala of the season was the Tonbridge Cup; a
boys-only event with two age groups. There were nine
schools competing in a tough competition. The boys
came second to Harrow, with Tonbridge in third and
Reed’s in fourth place.
Home competitions have taken place over the season,
with strong performances from both the boys and
girls. Several school records were broken during the
season, raising the bar again for swimmers to aim for
in years ahead.
Well done to all the swimmers representing
Sevenoaks School.
