The Lent term was equally busy. Throughout the year there have
been many open platform concerts giving soloists the chance to
perform in the smaller performance space of the Recital Room. The
Bach Passion provided some opportunities for instrumentalists as
well as choirs, but the William Sevenoke Memorial Concert was the
biggest orchestral performance of the term. The Wind Band played
a thrilling rendition of The Incredibles theme, and there was some
beautiful singing from the Sennocke Consort.
It wasn’t simply a celebration of the senior musicians; the Junior
Chamber Choir and Sevenoaks Strings both produced highly
polished performances of ‘SSS’ under Mr Heighway before
the Symphony Orchestra took on the might of Tchaikovsky’s
wonderfully brass-filled Marche Slave to close the largest classical
concert of the year.
This was clearly one of Mr Dyer’s favourite pieces; his rehearsals
were always animated as he brought to life the picture of cannons
blasting away and cavalry charging over the hill. We could see
the piece grow throughout the term from an enthusiastic but
unpolished beginning to something truly memorable by the time
we got to the concert.
After a fulfilling year of performance opportunities, I look forward
to my final year of music at Sevenoaks and I am sure it will prove
to be just as fun and rewarding.
