Choral music
For all those involved in choral music, this year has
provided a wealth of fantastic opportunities to
participate in smaller groups.
Students from across the school have joined some
of these smaller vocal groups to sing a range of
everything from choral to pop, finding numerous
occasions to perform in major choral concerts,
evensongs and informal concerts.
Sennocke Consort has continued to thrive following
the hugely enjoyable and rewarding tour to Tuscany
last summer. This year has had us tackling some
most demanding repertoire, including Debussy,
Fauré and Poulenc for the Voyage en Francophonie
concert and the carol service, and a selection from
Michael Tippett’s ‘Five Negro Spirituals’ in the Lent
term’s Music at Sevenoaks. As always, Mr Heighway’s
excellent direction has seen us master these difficult
choices and relish the musical challenges.
Perhaps the highlight of the year was the evensong
at St Paul’s Cathedral in January. To sing in such
esteemed surroundings – and acoustics – was a truly
unforgettable experience for all. The final performance
of the year, our unexpectedly packed evensong at
Chiddingstone, was a brilliant way to round off what
has been a phenomenal year of singing.
