STATION 11
Ceiba Trail
Howler monkey
Alouatta palliata
If you hear a loud howl , like the
bark of a big dog or a heavy-metal
singer, it is most likely a howler
monkey. They spend their time in
groups in the trees where they feed
on leaves.
Green life
Many animals use the roots, stems, leaves,
flowers, or fruits of plants as sources of
food or refuges. Plants are the only living
things capable of converting water and
minerals from the ground into food, using
the air that you exhale and energy from
the sun.
Stop and observe the trees from the
roots to the crown. Likely, in doing so, you
were able to see some of the animals that
depend on them. Almost 90% of the
fauna in this forest live up in the trees.
They can be found
searching for seeds
on the ground.
They walk along the
ground in search of seeds,
fruit, and insects, and like to
nest between tree roots.
