STATION 9
Ceiba Trail
Beneath the bridges
On your walk, you have used wooden
bridges to cross several streams. The
shade of the trees, the leaves that fall and
serve as food or hiding places, and the
purity of the water make these streams
ideal places for life.
Some creatures spend their entire life
underwater, like fish. For others, the water
is only part of their lifecycle, like frogs and
some insects, for example, damselflies.
Stop and observe at each bridge. Can
you find fish, frogs, or insects in the
water or flying close by?
Giant damselflies often fly in the open
areas close to streams looking for
spiders to eat.
Giant dragonfly
Familia Pseudostigmatidae
Glass frog
Familia Centrolenidae
Many types of frogs use the leaves above
bodies of water with a small current to
deposit their eggs.
Mojarra
Astatheros alfari
In some species of fish, the
parents care for their young and
risk their lives to defend their
offspring from predators. This is rare
among fish.
