During the actual physical exam , the doctor goes through multiple steps to make sure you are well enough to participate in a sport , including recording your height and weight , checking your blood pressure and pulse , testing your vision , checking your heart and lungs and examining your muscles , bones and joints . This doctor ’ s visit is also the perfect chance to ask any questions you may have about your health and diet .
Make no mistake , this isn ’ t a normal everyday physical that a regular person would get on any given day however . Dr . Jenkins talked about , while there are some similarities between the two , that there is one main difference that separated the two different physicals .
“ The difference mainly comes from what the physical itself tests . A sports physical is more of a screening , testing a person ’ s knees , shoulders and heart , or in other words , your musculoskeletal and circulatory systems ,” he described .
Sports physicals , despite being attached directly to sports , are extremely important for kids and teens , with Dr . Jenkins agreeing and stating that it ’ s not only a chance to clear them for sports but to make sure they take their health seriously .
“ For a lot of kids , this is their only chance or the only time to get this kind of stuff tested until they are at the age where they are going away to college , so it ’ s important in that respect to make sure the kids don ’ t have any sort of longstanding issues that may come up ,” he stated .
