The European External Action Service ( EEAS ) is the European Union ’ s diplomatic service .
Since 2011 , the EEAS carries out the EU ’ s Common Foreign and Security Policy to promote peace , prosperity , security , and the interests of Europeans across the globe . In coordination with the European Union institutions , the EEAS addresses EU foreign policy priorities , including civilian and military planning and crisis response .
The EEAS Maritime Security division , MD-PSD . SECDEFPOL . 6 , is responsible for policy development and coordination on maritime security , notably through the Revised EU Maritime Security Strategy , as well as for the implementation of the political aspects of the EU Coordinated Maritime Presences concept . It conducts dialogues with partners , and leads on high-visibility activities such as the joint naval exercises with the US in March 2023 and with India in October 2023 .
The EU Coordinated Maritime Presences concept supports regional maritime security architectures , such as the Yaoundé Architecture in the Gulf of Guinea and the Djibouti Code of Conduct – Jeddah Amendment in the North-western Indian Ocean .
Major activities of the division for the coming year include inter alia support to an annual , live maritime security exercise at EU level .
