Sea Level Rise 1 | Page 3

Many Different Causes are to blame for the significant changes in recent accounts of ocean levels. Most significant however, is the melting of glaciers and icecaps as well as thermal expansion, all of which are direct results of human caused global warming that are altering the Earth's climate significantly (Kim).

The Impact can be felt everywhere. People, animals, and most parts of the world will and are already experiencing major setbacks due to the effects of increasing water levels.

Aquifers can become contaminated, shrinking coasts harm turtles, and small islands such as the Solomon reefs are disappearing which destroys old vegetation and leaves families homeless(Albert).

The Importance of rising oceans may not seem like much to be concerned over, especially when most scientists point towards only a few inches of change in height. However, in most cases increeasing height has happened more quickly and greater than expected. Consider the fact that oceans cover about 70% of the world and it puts seemingly small changes in the ocean into perspective as a definite issue to be concerned over.
