Add to that an active pool and lecture training schedule and the use of open water sites such as Eccleston Delph and Capernwray , and you have a club that is thriving and growing without getting complacent .
When was TSAC formed ?
We began in 1973 as Sale Sub-Aqua Club , but changed our name to Trafford Sub Aqua Club ( TSAC ) around 1980 . The club is now in its 48th year and has a membership of 84 , including a new generation of 10 Ocean Divers . They are supported by a group of 14 instructors ( including Advanced level instructors ), who ensure that all our divers have an opportunity to improve their diving .
That ’ s a decent ratio of instructors ...
At present we have 12 trainees ( at various stages ) supported by 11 instructors and three Advanced Instructors . We also have 10 Assistant Instructors , two of whom managed to complete their course between lockdowns . Among our members is Steve Millard , an internationally recognised freediving instructor who regularly runs courses , although this happens outside the
BSAC remit . We have close links to Apneists UK freediving school and share pool time with them .
Otherwise , we have six Ocean Divers ; 17 Sports Divers and 16 Dive Leaders – some of them are working towards their Advanced Diver qualification . We have 16 qualified Advanced Divers and one First Class Diver , hopefully more in the future .
Does TSAC have any special focus ?
Yes - we all want to go diving ! Well , perhaps this is not quite as cut and dried as that sounds , but as a club we try to make sure that we get under the water as much as possible , preferably in the sea . Our members are always looking for opportunities to go diving around the UK , and further afield when it ’ s
