‘ Have a Go ’ night ( if you ’ re hard enough )
possible . This does mean that we have to maintain an active training scene to ensure new members and existing can obtain the skills and experience necessary to join in on the more challenging dives , hence our strong focus on regular training .
Have you kept busy over the Covid period ?
Inevitably , the pandemic and its restrictions significantly reduced the amount of training and diving that has taken place over the past 18 months . That said , we have managed to turn the lack of diving into an opportunity to improve the club in other areas .
Our committee revised the constitution , rules , and handbook to fit into alignment with BSAC ’ s new advice and also to include instructor reimbursement . Members also upgraded the website , making it more userfriendly and also upgrading the welcome page video . We also took the opportunity to develop a new logo to match the upgraded site .
We looked ahead to the reopening of pools by developing a risk assessment to allow the earliest possible resumption of safe pool sessions . Until quite recently we were not able to actively start training new members , we continued training the cohort that joined before the first lockdown . We also have two new Assistant Open Water instructors in the club .
How does TSAC raise funds ?
The club has a healthy balance maintained by a £ 13 monthly subscription from our members . With the current number of members , this had ensured we have plenty of funding available for any necessities .
How have you managed to raise membership ?
We have just had two ‘ HAG nights ’ ( Have A Go ) in September , which are essentially try dives . These are advertised on local media and over our various sites . We had 20 try-divers , of whom 10 have signed up and started their Ocean Diver course , with another three looking to join in the New Year .
We keep our club website updated with regular newsfeeds , and hopefully will be adding a blog spot in the near future . Our website has a public area , in which the news feeds can be seen . We are trying to put up at least one article per month to show that the club is active .
We ’ ve also set up pages on local resource sites , which are used so that anyone searching for diving or scuba in the local area can link to our club .
