Sighisoara

Medieval Citadel

Part of the UNESCO World Heritage, the citadel is the only medieval citadel in Europe still inhabited. Inside it, you can see the house where Vlad the Impaler was born, you can visit the beautiful Clock Tower or you can just wander on the old and narrow streets. Every July there is a medieval festival, where you can see knights in shining armors fighting for their honor and ladies cooking traditional food in the old-fashioned way.

Sarmizegetusa Regia

One of the oldest tourist attractions in Romania, Sarmizegetusa Regia used to be the capital city of the ancient kingdom of Dacia. The Dacians were civilized people with their own culture, language, and religion, and were conquered by the Romans in 107 A.D. The archeological site still preserves part of the temples and buildings, and is located in a very remote area, in a forrest surrounded by mountains. The city used to be the central point of a system of fortifications which were spread on the surrounding mountains. The fortifications and their culture is still not fully understood till nowadays. It is believed that around the site there are strong magnetic fields and energies.

Close to it, you can also visit the archaeological site of Sarmizegetusa Ulpia Traiana, the city that the Romans built as a new capital, after they conquered Dacia.
