Winter Blasts the East Coast

NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this beautifull mosaic of the United States draped in heavy storm clouds. While the view from above looks pleasant and calm, below the East Coast is frigid and under snow. Much of the coast has reported temperatures of five to negative five. North of Boston an estimated two feet of snow fell. Once the storm leaves, meteorologists predict temperatures will fall even more. Not only are several hundred schools closed, but thousands of flights have been cancelled. Even worse is the injury and death that has traveled with the storm. -GR

Quick Takes

Ford's new concept car, the Ford C-Max Solar Energi, runs partly on solar power. The roof of the car has three sets of solar cells meant to capture the most solar energy during the day. An additonal canopy comes with the car. This canopy is meant to magnify the solar rays as the day goes by. - GR

At the American Geophysical Union meeting held last month, geologists garenteed that Gale Crater, on Mars, used to be a lake. Curiosity Rover is bringing back more evidence for water on Mars than any other rover to date. Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has also found evidence for present day water around the equater. -GR
