The bachelor’ s program in medical laboratory science combines biology and chemistry with medicine and clinical sciences to prepare students for an exciting career in laboratory medicine. Medical laboratory scientists play a key role in the healthcare team by providing the laboratory test results that assist physicians in patient diagnosis, treatment, and maintenance of overall health.
The medical laboratory science program is offered in collaboration with Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, the third leading education medical center in Maryland. After completing two years of prerequisite courses in basic sciences and liberal arts and a third year of liberal arts and professional courses in laboratory medicine, students will spend their senior year at Sinai Hospital. Sinai’ s partnership with Stevenson University provides students with an unparalleled immersion experience where students gain hands-on practice with state-ofthe-art equipment in a dedicated laboratory space. Students are instructed by pathologists and medical laboratory professionals who hold national certification in their field of expertise. In addition, students also have a clinical practicum at up to four clinical affiliates the spring of their senior year where they gain valuable experiences, making them sought after, workplace-ready professionals. Furthermore, students will be prepared to take the national certification exam offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology( ASCP) which certifies all medical laboratory scientists. This curriculum is an excellent foundation for medical, dental, and pharmacy schools.
