Teaching & Learning Approaches
Assessment is a fundamental element of teaching which allows for the evaluation of learning outcomes . Authentic assessments are unit tasks that are simulated from real-world problems into professional contexts . The goal is to challenge students ’ critical thinking and problem solving skills . One of the many key benefits of authentic assessment is the experiential learning opportunity for students to practise the ability to work in pressurised situations and relate to real-life challenges .
The School of Business ’ approach to Authentic Assessment includes :
z Use of educational apps such as Pollyeverywhere . com , Kahoot and Padlet to encourage students to collaboratively engage in discussions z Hosting industry experts in workshops , inviting guest speakers , or appointing industry assessors as methods of engagement between students and future employers z Assessments and learning activities that incorporate digital competencies to familiarise students with Excel , PowerPoint , RStudio , Canva and other industry-relevant digital softwares .
These units have incorporated various forms of assessments and the respective teaching staff received Purple Letters in 2022 :
