MOE ExCEL Fest 2011
The ExCEL Fest 2011 was held on 1 & 2 April 2011 at the Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre . The theme was “ Different Pathways to Success : Strong Fundamentals , Future Learnings ”. A team of teachers from our AHS English Department had the privilege to share their ideas from their Lesson Study on ‘ Enhancing Prior Knowledge for Reading Comprehension ’. Through the Sharing Session , the AHS team presented enthusiastically their findings on how the provision of prior knowledge through the use of multi-media would help secondary school students answer English Comprehension questions better .
First-Aid and Fire-Fighting Workshop 2011
In line with the Safety Week 2011 in February , the school invited officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force ( SCDF ) to conduct a workshop on First Aid and Fire Fighting for the staff . Besides learning from the interesting and informative presentations , the participants also had fun during a hands-on session in bandaging the ‘ victims ’ and using the fire-extinguishers . AHS , you are in safe hands !
Best Teacher Reflections 2011
As practitioners , it is important for teachers to reflect on and document their teaching methodologies / strategies . This is currently being done by AHS teachers , using the PETALS Framework in the areas of Pedagogy , Experience of Learning , Tone of Environment , Assessment , and Learning Content . Each month , teachers with the best reflections are rewarded with little tokens . Congratulations to the teachers who have been selected !
