Netball at Scarisbrick Hall School Middle School & College Netball Reported by: Miss Markey The first game of the Netball season for our year 7-11 teams would undoubtably be our toughest of the season, we were drawn to play Greenbank High School first, this has historically been a difficult fixture for us. We took 2 teams from year 7 and a team from years 8, 9 & 10. Unfortunately due to many pupils being absent our year 11 team were unable to play. Amy Walsh, Amy Bell and Charlie Millar stepped up as coaches and umpires for the games and showed fantastic leadership skills encouraging and helping with tactics for our teams. The girls in each team fought hard and showed determination and resilience against very strong teams. Our newly formed year 7 teams showed excellent potential for the future with good teamwork and communication skills. The 7A team battled hard but unfortunately were defeated as were the 7B team. “The Netball match against Greenbank was the first one of the year. We played well, good interception, great dodging to get the ball; I was Goal Keeper. The overall score was 0-22 to Greenbank. We didn’t mind because it was a hard first match to play. It made us determined to win our next match.” Amy Rigby 7B Our year 8 team played well in the first half and were trailing by 1 goal at half time. During the second half we had as many chances at shooting but Greenbank managed to convert more goals. The girls have been working hard in training and this showed during the game against a difficult Greenbank side. The year 9 & 10 teams played just as well picking up where they left off at the end of last season. The umpires from Greenbank commented on the skilful play of our teams and their excellent attitude towards their Netball. Although both teams were defeated they took the positives from the first game back. Due to lack of facilities available at Stanley High our next matches were played at Meols Cop, where we played Stanley High and the home team on the same evening. With a year 11 team back in full force we took 6 teams along to Meols Cop. The experience of our older teams proved vital and it was fantastic to see them play so professionally with skilful play, tactical centre passes and excellent teamwork. The year 11s went on to win both their games. Our year 10 team beat Stanley High and was defeated by a last minute goal against Meols Cop. The year 9 team started the evening off with an amazing 18-0 score line whilst playing Meols Cop and then went on to draw in a very tense game against Stanley High 4-4. Our middle school teams took a while to settle into their first game which was against Meols Cop, some silly, uncharacteristic mistakes meant the year 8 team were drawing at half time and our year 7 teams behind by 2 goals. In the second half the teams played much better and showed some great teamwork. They fought hard but Meols Cop ended with a win in all 3 games. All the teams have shown vast improvement and continue to work hard in netball practices. Well done to all pupils involved.
