Year 9 Reported by: Mr Linge & Mr Roberts Year 9 students (old and new) have quickly settled into their new life in the College and have now started their GCSE courses and option subjects. There are many things to look forward to this year and several Year 9 students are really excited about going on the forthcoming trip to New York. Here is a brief summary of what they have been learning since the start of the academic year: Maths: Set 1 have been studying long division, fractions, estimation, 3-D coordinates and quadratic equations. Set 2 have been studying ratio, probability and algebra. English: Students have been studying about Victorian crime and Sherlock Holmes as well as reading and analysing poems. Physics: Energy and the National Grid Chemistry: Metals and rocks Biology: Puberty and the nervous system ICT: Students have studied Social networks and have started doing a coursework task. Drama: The GCSE Drama group have been creating their own Pantomime (oh yes they have!) and have been studying the effect of including comedy and tragedy in a production. French: Year 9 French students have learnt new spellings and learnt how to write and talk about health & fitness and family relatives. Spanish: In Spanish, they have been learning about nouns, adjectives and verbs and how to express opinions and talk about their families. Catering: In Catering students have been learning about pasta and rice and how to cut up vegetables in the correct manner. They have also made creme brulee, macaroni cheese and mushroom risotto (yum!) Business Studies: The GCSE group have been looking at marketing and enterprises. History: Students have been learning about WWI, notably the League of Nations and the Treaty of Versailles. Geography: Waves and coastal erosion. GCSE P.E.: In theory lessons, they have been studying about muscles, warm ups and cool downs, motor skills and key concepts and in practical lessons they have been concentrating on Basketball and Netball. Art: In Art the GCSE group have been focussing on Pop Art. Well Being: 9L and 9R have been looking at Sex Education and Racism this term. Mr Linge and Mr Roberts have been very impressed by the mature approach Year 9 have shown towards their studies and are looking forward to them achieving success in their upcoming assessments.
