My helmet ’ s paintjob was worked out with my graphic designer , we did it together . There is no special meaning - but I really like those colours . In the blue there is a small thing that you cannot really see , and there is a meaning . But I keep that only for close friends … I really like the design from last year , so for this year it is more or less the same . For sure your helmet paint is something that you do in the way you want but I did not put something very personal into the design - I just tried to make a cool helmet !”

A slightly different design this year . Helmets are generally the only piece of riding equipment the rider has control over , because the leather suit is team based with team sponsors . It is where you can really let a bit of design come through and over the years it has really changed . I have worked with Aldo Drudi for the last maybe eight or ten years . I have always suggested to him helmets that I like and designs that I like and he tends to knock it out of the park ! I like straight lines and symmetry and he has always brought that through . In the last few years we have tweaked the design slightly , but the colourways of red , white and black , are synonymous with my father , as he always used a red black and white helmet . His transport company is those colours too . My helmet is always available nowadays in a replica , so the design has to go through Arai , and Arai Japan . When you take the sponsor logos off for the replica it still has to be commercially attractive . It is trying to combine something that I am really happy with , with something that looks good commercially , and something that stands out on the track . I think you can pick me out on the track quite easily now .”

I have always had my helmets influenced by Neil Hodgson , my manager , and my sponsorship with monster energy . I ’ m always a believer of keeping the same design so the rider is recognisable but with sponsorship deals and things these days , it ’ s harder to achieve .”

I have a new paint design for 2021 . The eyes of the white tiger are represented on the helmet . I chose this because it is a rare and unique animal and I like the sign of aggression it conveys . My nephew is also represented . The helmet is very important because it conveys your personality !”
