Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club
Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club
(BSSC) is one of the oldest competitive
swimming clubs in Hertfordshire. The
club caters for all standards. As well as
offering excellent coaching and training
programmes, we organise our own galas
and compete in national, regional and
county competitions.
Masters Focus - The Great East Swim
2018 - 23rd June.:The Masters swimmers
were in action at the Great East swim on
23rd June, which saw 7 of our Masters
swimmers competing! The event, which
featured a range of distances was held
at Alton Water in Suffolk, and the BSSC
Team did brilliantly well.
British and European record holders in
the pool, Sally Winter and Lizzie Bellinger,
both impressed in the 1 mile event,
coming away with 1st place fi nishes
in their respective age categories. In
addition, Lizzie fi nished as the 3rd
female overall, and Sally closely behind
in 6th place overall, both managing to
beat Olympic silver medallist Kerri-Anne
Payne in the process.
The 5km event was also extremely
competitive, and featured several
National open swimmers. The BSSC
swimmers taking part in the 5km event
were not to be out done however. Helen
Shingler impressed with a fantastic
victory in the 45-49 yrs category,
fi nishing as the 14th female overall.
Helen was closely fol lowed by Saffron
BSSC Masters Swimmers at the
Great East Swim
Craig, who was 6th in her age category
(40-44) and fi nished in the top 30
women overall too. Jerry Grover made a
brilliant return to the open water scene,
with a top 10 fi nish in his age category
(50-54), as did Richard Livings, who
fi nished in a fantastic time of 1 hour 29
minute. Anel Zuniga-Daly also stepped
up heroically in the 5km event, fi nishing
in the top 50 women overall.
Age group swimmer Eleanor Mason was
also involved in the action, completing
the ½ mile swim in a time that placed
her as the 11th female overall.
Other BSSC Masters highlights this
year include Lizzie Bellinger’s amazing
performances:
British Records for 100m Fly both short
and long course 40-44 years age group.
Blenheim Palace Triathlon, 2nd in age
group.
World Aquathlon Championships (swim
and run), 7th in age group.
