• He further mentioned that they have received about 30
complaints that involves ODS refrigerant and they are
currently conducting site visits at various provinces to
establish if those complaints are valid. Ten (10)
facilities were already visited/inspected. Outcome of
the inspection will be provided when all sites have been
inspected. He further emphasised that companies that
are found being non-compliant, enforcement action will
be taken against them.
• Mr Nyambi (DEFF Compliance Monitoring) reminded
stakeholders of the Environmental Management
Inspectors (EMIs) mandate, and alluded that it is an
offence in terms of the National Environmental
Management Act (NEMA) to prevent and delay them
from entering a facility.
• He added that the team is designated in terms of
Section 31 of NEMA and they hold an identification card
which they produce upon arrival at facilities for
inspections. He further mentioned that just like Police
officers, they may conduct inspections wearing their
uniform or without, however the identification card is
always presented.

3.2 World Ozone Day
• Mr Maweni reported that World Ozone Day (WOD) will
be hosted on 16 September in Kimberly, Northern
Cape. The event will be held back-to-back with the
Waste Khoro Summit (18-19 September) and
International Clean-Up day (17 September). The WOD
event will be targeting schools and members of the
public as it has been done previously. The theme for
this year is “32 years and healing”.
