alTirado: The message, is political? Is
feminist? Is sexist?
Isis: No, I do not consider myself a feminist
or a political artist. I am an artist first. I want
to be free to say whatever I want to say,
without placating to any group. Whether my
art is sexist or not, is up for interpretation.
Playboy magazine has never contacted me
for an interview. However, every time I post an
image of my masked women on my Facebook
page, I get 5 Star military generals in Bagdad
trying friend me. Go figure? Many male artists
have painted nudes for a variety of reasons,
I put lingerie on my women to make them
comfortable, aesthetically beautiful and sacred,
for we live in times, where a Victoria Secret›s
commercial is acceptable and a piece of art.
The ski mask is a universal mask of conflict,
whether you are a Zapatista or robbing a bank,
you are going into a place of conflict usually
based on economics and territory. Speaking for
myself, I have been living in conflict for a very
long time for many reasons ranging from being
a mixed blood, to being raised a Catholic, and
from being a woman. I am interested in showing
the public how conflict manifests and how it›s
resolved using myself as an example.
