Interview to Isis Rodríguez by alTirado alTirado: How was your interest in art born? Did you study art? Isis: I have been drawing ever since I was a little girl. I used to copy Walt Disney, Hannah-Barbera & Warner Bros cartoons by hand, making sure to get their proportions just right. I was a perfectionist in those days and I consider copying my first lessons in art. Later as an adolescent, I began creating my own cartoons and stories and always knew that I wanted to be an artist. And so I enrolled into college and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Art in Painting. alTirado: How do you call your characteristic painting style? Isis: I appreciate great technique. I think that›s what dominates my style. The cartoon, is the soul of my works. It is the new figurative, for the majority of artists that have retained the skills of the Great European Masters, are cartoonists, graphic novelists and animators. For me, the cartoon is a minimalist drawing and the representational figure is an over rendered cartoon.
