A R O U N D C A M P U S Exploring Jobs and Careers in Omega In November, Omega boys held their Career Fair where faculty and parents met with future doctors, soccer players, race car drivers, bus drivers—even a spy! The boys shared their original career study books, which contained colorful illustrations and facts about the careers they selected. With great animation, they displayed their knowledge and were eager to answer questions posed by their adult visitors. During the fall, the class studied various careers and their roles in the community. They welcomed parent visitors to their classroom to talk about their careers; and went on several field trips, including one to the Queens County Farm Museum where they learned about the farmer’s role in society. The Exploring Jobs and Careers study engages Saint David’s young students in the type of active, hands-on learning that boys love and which deepens understanding. GLI Partnership Fifth and sixth graders have the opportunity to explore the Gilder Collection through the school’s partnership with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. At the beginning of each school year, GLI President James Basker conducts a workshop for sixth graders and parents on the importance of historical documents, particularly the valuable information and insights they provide. 46  •  Saint David’s Magazine
