A R O U N D C A M P U S Hands-on Learning in American History with the New-York Historical Society As they explored the ways in which New York City has changed over time, second graders participated in hands-on learning experiences developed by the school’s partnership with the New-York Historical Society. They studied the Lenape tribe of early Manhattan and created seasonal models of Lenape longhouses and wigwams. The boys also visited Inwood Park during this unit of study. Third Grade boys also engaged in learning experiences and related art projects with the New-York Historical Society when studying the reasons for westward expansion. Their history program focuses on the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in America and emphasizes the ways in which Americans have demonstrated perseverance and ingenuity in improving their lives.
