Vision Statement , Draft Safety Goal , and Safety Data Nicole Waldheim , project team member from Fehr & Peers , asked the question , “ Why do a transportation safety action plan ?” She explained that the City needs this comprehensive safety plan targeting serious injuries and fatal crashes aVecting all roadway users . The plan will provide clarity on priorities and strategies to improve road safety , give opportunity to proactively reduce risk of severe collisions on roads , and facilitate agency partnerships and collaboration for implementation . This plan will also allow the City to apply for an SS4A implementation grant . The plan includes leadership commitment and goal settings as well as strategy and project selections .
Nicole pointed out that City leaders and staV , along with a diverse group of stakeholders , have committed to a shared vision of zero deaths and serious injuries on Arlington ’ s street . Safe Streets Arlington recommends policy , education , enforcement , engineering , engagement , and equitable solutions to achieve safe streets for all . The safety goal will be to reduce deaths and severe injuries on Arlington ’ s streets by five percent annually to achieve a shared goal of zero deaths and serious injuries by 2050 .
High-Injury Network Mason Shoaf , project team member from Kimley-Horn , reviewed the high-injury network for vehicles and motorcycles and the high-injury network for bicycles and pedestrians . He highlighted the corridors that are the highest priority considering disadvantaged areas , proximity to schools , number of fatal and severe crashes , and land use . Mason also reviewed the safety dashboard which will allow stakeholders , City staV , and the public to view the high-injury networks and the interactive crash map showing the crash history for the City of Arlington . City staV will use this as a tool to update the Safety Action Plan . New crash data will be added to track hotspots in the City . Data available on the dashboard will include a complete crash history from 2018-2022 , land use context , disadvantaged Census areas and other equity data , and roadway data ( number of lanes , speed limits , volumes ). A draft of the safety dashboard was provided for public review .
