Strategies and Actions Nicole stated that success of this plan depends on the following strategy areas :
Strategy 1 : Institutionalize safety into the City of Arlington ’ s core functions and job responsibilities : Definition : All City staV and leaders are responsible for actions that support funding , administering , building , operating , and maintaining a safe system .
Strategy 2 : Reduce fatal and severe crashes Definition : Prioritize the elimination of crashes that result in death and serious injuries .
Strategy 3 : Prevent future crashes Definition : Identify and address safety issues in the transportation system , rather than waiting for crashes to occur and reacting afterwards .
Strategy 4 : Design and operate the road system with safety in mind Definition : A transportation system designed with safety in mind reduces behaviors and decisions that increase the likelihood of death and serious injury when a crash occurs .
