SABESA ALUMNI Sept. 2014 | Page 13

13 inspection of vessels, regulating port activities just to mention a few. 3. How did you decide on your career/academic path? After my advance level I took out some time to reflect on my career with the guidance of my dad. I ended up choosing the maritime sector which happens to be a very reach sector and which also has a promising career for the youths, especially those who have a background in the maritime sector. 4. What curricular/extracurricular aspects from your background, dating back to St. Bede’s or before, factored into and helped you on your journey to where you are today? Every curricular activity factored into my journey of where I am today. I took every curricular activity serious, but I would like to mention that I love social night on Saturday and club meetings on Fridays. Clubbing meetings in St Bede’s were very important for it help us to develop our talents. We met every Friday and practiced dance moves and also develop animation skills and dance moves to please the crowd whenever you are faced with one. The social club which I happened to belong to, helped me to come out of my shelf, be bold when you are face with a large crowd and also to communicate fluently and with confidence. 5. What hurdles, if any, did you overcome along the way, and how? Hurdles I had along the way were adapting to the cold climate and a very tight school program, which did not permit us to have much time for ourselves. Adapting to the cold climate had to take some time and with this one I just had to accept because one had no option. As of the tight school program I just had to draw up my own program to fit with that of school program. 6. What advice do you have for students who aspire to pursue your career/academic path, and for current St. Bede’s College students overall? I would advice every student to take his/her studies seriously and also to believe that the fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom. I would also wish to encourage students who want to pursue a career in the maritime sector which happens to be a very fertile sector especially when it comes to providing jobs with the coming up of the Kribi deep sea port and the Limbe port not to give up that quest. For those that need advice, my office is open to all. They could also contact me through my email or telephone number.
