1. Please tell us a little bit about
yourself and when you attended St. Bede’s
College?
I am now Dr. Joko Walburga Yvonne called
Wally by most of my friends and family. I am
25 years old now, and still learning each day
of this journey called life. I grew up in a very
loving and supportive family, spent the early
days of my life in Douala, grew up with
Bilola Fofung “Kitibo” and Takunaw Tambi;
two wonderful friends, we met in primary
school, but our paths later on diverged to
meet again..yes, strange enough in St.
Bedes College.
We were a strange trio, all the same age
group, our Dads were doctors and we were
so different, yet we bonded.
Following primary school, I went to Lourdes,
where I spent five incredible years, difficult
at times, but I grew to appreciate all the
lessons taught and the people I grew to
know.
I found pleasure in competitive sports like
basketball, loved dancing too and reading.
Had wonderful friends, and I learnt
there never to compare myself to anybody
but to know who I am, where I am from and
to realize how much I have been blessed.
From Lourdes, I knew I didn’t have much of
a choice… St. Bede’s it was!!… My sister, a
role model, had just left St. Bede’s … I didn’t
even do another interview. So I left my safe
cocoon of a single-sex school, of the gentle
nature of correction, and the friends whom
had become sisters and moved to AshingKom in September 2002.
