PROFILE rauma Centre BorrowdaleTRAUMA TRAUMA CENTRE BORROWDALE
In 1996, he opened Zimbabwe’ s first private trauma centre, establishing the foundation for the country’ s modern emergency medical network. Building on this experience, Dr Solanki launched Trauma Centre Borrowdale & Critical Care Hospital in 2014. Today, the hospital offers emergency care, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, maternity, paediatrics, and other specialised services. It was the first in Zimbabwe to introduce a private cardiac catheterisation lab and, more recently, the nation’ s first private open-heart service.
Under Dr Solanki’ s leadership, the Trauma Centre Borrowdale has grown into a regional hub for urgent and specialised care, attracting patients from across the SADC region and Europe. Services span cardiac care, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, maternity, oncology, and other specialised treatments. Recovery and long-term wellbeing are integrated into the patient journey through regenerative medicine, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, cryotherapy, and Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and Ozonation( EBOO). Complementing these treatments, the hospital’ s Jet Fuel Bar offers medically supervised IV therapy to support recovery, immunity, and energy management.
This expertise has driven the Zimbabwe Medical Safari initiative, a medical tourism programme where patients receive treatment at Trauma Centre Borrowdale. Recovery takes place at Victoria Falls and in national parks, and patients return for follow-ups before travelling home. This initiative has attracted significant international interest.
Each patient journey is managed by a dedicated medical concierge, overseeing consultations, procedures, and posttreatment recovery. Recovery may continue at curated lodges or wellness retreats near Victoria Falls and Hwange National Park.
Dr Solanki’ s leadership has received widespread recognition. In 2024, he was inducted into the National Business Hall of Fame and received the Zimbabwe Community Trailblazers Award. The following year, he was awarded the Zim CEO Network’ s Super Platinum Award for Service Excellence.
Through the Trauma Centre Borrowdale, Dr Solanki has positioned Zimbabwe as a credible hub for advanced healthcare and medical tourism, combining operational efficiency, clinical capability and patient-centred recovery. ■
