Surely it bothers us when that kind of thing
happens in a fic, but if the warning or label of
OoC is present, then we do not have as much
right to complain, don’t you think? It is impor-
tant to consider the warnings or hashtags of the
story. They are used in most cases so that the
reader avoids displeasure on the couple and the
writer can continue with the story.
Do we want to keep the fandom active so it
keeps growing? If the answer is yes... Then why
are there so many problems in the fandom?
Conflictive or not, we all love our fandom, but
despite this, at certain times some people come
to feel that there are too much conflicts and
they prefer to take a break. What happens to an
author when the only thing they find are des-
tructive comments and complains about the way
they develop their works?
What happens when they feel, no matter what
they do, that the people do not like anything?
They begin to explore other options where they
can continue to do what they like without fear
of criticism. In the worst of case, this means a
change or decisition of leaving the fandom. The
truth is, just as there are problematic fandoms,
there are some others that are calmer, and that
passivity can attract authors who are a little bit
bored of the conflicto they have to deal with
constantly. The love of our fandom is very big,
but be careful, because it is not resistant to
everything. We know perfectly which are the
overly conflictive fandoms and as a community
11
we must work
not to be as annoying or mali-
cious as them.
A fandom is a community where interests are sha-
red and support is important for the members. A
place where authors collaborate with each other,
where they help and at the same time make them
better. It is not good for a place like that to beco-
me a space to judge each other or to be disres-
pectful to those who stand out a little thanks to
their effort and dedication to their projects.
Nobody arrives at the fandom knowing
everything, and nobody becomes "popular" over-
night; this happens for the hours you spend in
front of a computer, giving the best of you to do
something that they consider very good and is
supported by those who saw your work and en-
joyed it. Why not take away the problems and
simply enjoy our beloved OTP? We are part of
this community and it is our responsibility to make
it grow in the best way. Let's make the fandom
one of the most active, with help and collaborati-
on from us.
The fandom must remain nice as it is now!
