stitches are worked into an i-cord on dpns until the
required length is reached. Without casting off, the
yarn is then broken and the live stitches are held
on a stitch holder. This process is repeated until all
i-cords have been knitted. Then, when working the
main section of the body, the i-cords are attached
as follows:
1. In preparation for attaching the first
i-cord, place its three live stitches on a
needle of the same size as used for the
project, (Fig11a).
2. Knit until the specified point in the
pattern then hold the i-cord, with the WS
facing, against the RS of the main body
of the work.
3. Knit through the first stitch of the i-cord
together with the next stitch, as presented,
of the main body of work, (Fig11b) – as if
working a K2tog.
4. Repeat Step 3 for the remaining two
stitches of the i-cord, (Fig11c).
5. Attach all other i-cords in the same way.

and yarn weight). For each section of fringe: -
1. Fold the required lengths of yarn in half
and bring a crochet, from back to front,
through the fabric just above the cast on
edge, (Fig13a).
2. Use the crochet hook to catch all lengths
of yarn together, as a single group, and pull
through the fabric until a loop appears on
the WS, (Fig13b).
3. Insert the crochet hook through this loop
of yarn, from back to front, (Fig13c), and
then carefully pull through the ends of the
yarn to make a knot, (Fig13d).
4. Repeat for all other sections of fringe.
5. Once complete, evenly cut across the
entire fringe to the length specified by the
pattern, (Fig13e).
A different type of fringing is used in Sasha Kagan’s
“Vermillion”, allowing the textures and colours
of the different yarns to give a more open finish.
When all the knitting is complete, cut lengths of
