surgery and the orthopedist before the surgery and the orthopedist
When I returned home we had to move my bed out to the living room so that I could watch TV with the family and pretty much have something to do. Every couple of hours my mother would have to help me go for a walk but after a couple of days I could do it on my own. At first I was only able to walk around the house but then I could walk around the farm.
When school started back up I was skeptical. I was still having a lot of pain and was even having difficulties sitting for a long time. When we went school shopping we bought one of those rolling suitcases so that I wouldn’t have to carry my books, which was embarrassing but got the job done.
I only had pain once in a while like when I would be bending over a lot but it was enough that when I thought that I wanted to do volleyball freshman year we figured we should do something about it. We brought it up with my specialist when my regular appointment rolled around and he recommended physical therapy. I went to physical therapy the whole summer before freshman year. I still had pain during volleyball and wasn’t able to hold the signature volleyball crouch due to pain but I could still hit the ball most of the time.
There were many parts of the experience that I wish were different. The worst part of the experience was being shut up in the hospital for five days. I felt claustrophobic and just wanted to leave. The second worst thing was the morphine drip, which might switch with number one because it might have been part of the cause. I also disliked the physical therapy but who doesn’t.
