Ana Mocking slipped through the vents over the rooms marked only by the light filtering through the grates in the underside of the vent. The metal walls echo softly as she army crawls her way to the lab. The only other sound in the airtight vent is the rasp of her suppressed breath.
Ana had been trained for this. She had spent many hours with the small device. She would turn it on and then slip in and out of the shadows as it turned her nearly invisible. The people who trained her would at first be able to find her easily as she stumbled stupidly but as she got progressively better at being stealthy with the device the sessions would last longer and her trainees would even get frustrated because they wouldn’t be able to find her. When you were looking for her all you would see is a faint glimmer as she moved through the light that could be mistaken for a trick of the eye when she was in shadow she would be nearly impossible to see.
Ana took a deep breath and stops at grate twenty-eight just like they told her to. She pulls a screwdriver from her tool belt and sets to work unscrewing the bolts in a clockwise fashion careful not to miss one, careful not to make any noise, and careful not to let any of the screws drop to the room below. Once the grate is loose Ana gingerly loosened it and set it on the other side of the now gaping dark hole. Unlike the other rooms that seemed to contain light and therefore occupants this one seemed empty, but Ana was not convinced by this false sense of security she knew that below lay cameras and sensors that were being watched by guards.
She attached a thin wire to her belt and then turned on the device, instantly Ana felt safer knowing that now she was less likely to be caught. She slowly lowered herself into the room careful not to knock anything off of the counter because if she did it would set off blaring alarms. Ana unhooked her wire and stepped over to a camera to start inputting automatic feed when all of a sudden dozens of alarms started to blare. All she could see was whirling red lights. Guards poured into the room and started firing blindly, some of the shots hit her and it turns out that once her blood left her body it was no longer invisible. Ana tried to take cover but failed and was shot down. One of the guards hit the device out of her hand. Ana used the only weapons that she was sent in here with her fists and her body. She wailed on as many guards as she could managing to knock out two of the ten. When Ana died she was once again visible lying still and beautiful. Her last thought was that someone had sent her in here to die.
