PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS
SHREWSBURY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
KOREAN DUO RETURN FOR ALUMNI CONCERT
On 19 th June, we were very pleased and privileged to welcome back
Heewon Woo (Class of 2010, Violin, currently at Cleveland Institute of
Music) and Yaeram (Candy) Park (Class of 2016), Flute, Conservatoire
Nationale, Paris) for the third annual Alumni Music Scholars Concert.
Heewon, accompanied by fellow alumnus C hannarong (Jumbo) Janta-
rarat, now a music teacher at Shrewsbury, performed pieces by Mo-
zart, Brahms and Szymanowski, whilst Yaeram’s pieces included Schu-
mann, Reinecke and Ibert. The concert concluded with a joint per-
formance of P. Gaudbert’s Medialles antiques; a very special moment
for both Mr. Holroyd, attending his last such recital as Principal, and
the rest of the audience, all clearly very appreciative of the incredible
standard of musicianship on show.
SI-WI-LAI 2017
On Thursday 8th June the Music and Thai Studies Departments presented the second installment Si-Wi-
Lai; a celebration of traditional Thai-Fusion Music and Poetry. Delicious food, brilliant performance, excel-
lent all-round entertainment. Thanks to everyone who made it possible.
DESFORD COLLIERY BAND VISIT
At the start of term 3b, we welcomed back Desford Colliery Band for their second visit to Shrewsbury.
Hailing for Leicestershire, UK, and winners of several high profile international competitions, Desford are
widely regarded as one of the world’s premier brass ensembles.
Throughout the two-day visit, students were treated to a number of workshops, whilst an impromptu
lunchtime performance in the Morris Forum provided a taster ahead of another excellent evening perform-
ance in the Memorial Hall, enjoyed by members of the Shrewsbury community and visiting music lovers
alike.
Our thanks to the Band and to the Music Department for coordinating another hugely enjoyable visit.
