SHREWSBURY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS
PRICKLY PERFORMANCE SECURES SCENEFEST CROWN FOR SUU KYI
Six Houses shared the stage, but 4 Houses shared the awards at Scenefest 2017: the 10 th edition of Shrews-
bury’s annual inter house drama competition for students in years 7-10.
Following 2014’s very successful Revolting Rhymes theme, each house was tasked to script, produce, di-
rect and perform a 15 minute piece based on Roald Dahl’s book, Dirty Beasts, incorporating elements and
conventions from Greek theatre.
Whilst the Drama Department were on hand to provide guidance on the theme, in all other respects the
performances were entirely student-led, and once again proved to be a fantastic showcase for the talent
and camaraderie nurtured through the House system.
This year, the tough task of judging the competition was also down to the students; Shrewsbury’s very tal-
ented drama scholars ultimately plumping for Suu Kyi’s The Porcupine as the best overall production, with
The Pig (King House) and The Anteater (Teresa House) in second and third places respectively. Well done
to them, and all those involved, including winners of all of the other technical prizes:
Best Director: Derya, Deva and Anna; The Crocodile (Mandela House)
Best Performance (acting): Cathryn; The Anteater (Teresa House)
Best Design: The Crocodile (Mandela House)
Best Contribution: Tam, Sonika and Naomi (chorus members); The Porcupine (Suu Kyi House)
