PRIME MINISTER MEETS WITH WESTERN DIVISION / VEHICLE HANDED OVER HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY INDEPENDENCE PARADE 2014 Thursday, March 20, 2014 - The Security arm of the public service is the only area that is exempt from the hiring freeze instituted in government for the period of the home grown Structural Adjustment Programme. Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr. Keith Mitchell made the announcement during an open forum with the Western Division of the Royal Grenada Police Force on Thursday afternoon, at the Victoria Hotel in St. Marks. The Grenadian leader assured officers attending the meeting that the policy will remain in effect during the three year period of Debt Restructuring to revive an economy which has moved from negative to positive growth since the Mitchell administration assumed office a year ago. In the open forum attended by Acting Commissioner Mr. Winston James, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Frank Redhead and other High Ranking officials of the RGPF, Prime Minister Mitchell emphasized the importance of the Force in Grenada’s overall development, and assured them that the Government is committed to supporting them in any way possible, even in this tough economic period. “We cannot speak about the role of the police and not take steps to ensure that we make our contribution in helping them to perform effectively.” Dr. Mitchell said. Prime Minister Mitchell praised the RGPF for the many steps taken recently to improve its image, citing that much of that is owed to the “sound professional, caring, firm and compassionate leadership” of the RGPF. The Prime Minister, Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner outlined a few programs that are designed to further develop and enhance the performance of the Force. Those include the implementation of a scholarship program, educational certificate program with St. George’s University, an Associate degree program with the T.A. Marryshow Community College. The Prime Minister and RGPF leadership in listening to the needs and concerns of the police officers, also promised to continue to engage Psychologists and other learned professionals to work with individual officers in solving personal problems that will in \
