In a few weeks, it was nationally declared that 17, 18 and 19 of November will be an official holiday. It is a perfect time for students to enjoy some few day offs and to relax before the finals come in the first week of december. But do we really know what will be happening during these days? Well, APEC will take place here in Peru for the second time being a big honor for our country. Today I will explain more thoroughly about what is APEC and why is it important to know about it because many interesting and crucial things will be happening while we are staying at home or hanging out with friends if it is the case.
APEC, Asian-Pacific Economic Corporation, was founded in 1989 and it started with 12 members including countries like United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Its first objective was to organize an annual meeting with the ministers of each country invited to discuss about the economic situation in each case, and in general to safe and sustain the economy of the Asian-Pacific region. This objective has been maintained since today as the vital grow of the economy is important for everyone, however the only thing that changed is that instead of being 12 countries now they are 21 including countries from South america like Peru

who joined in November 14 and 15 of 1998 and Chile who joined in November 11 and 12 of 1994. The importance of APEC is that during their reunions, countries agreed to facilitate trades among countries participating and also they align regulations and standards in the region.
The benefits of having this type of reunion once a year is that countries are able to improve their economy, so that poverty can be vanished forever and they can develop even more. APEC let countries to discuss about their economy’s situation and to unify more as a region reducing trade barriers. So having Peru as the
center of this forum summit means that we are improving and developing in our economy and as a country. In this international meeting, well-known presidents like Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin, are welcome to Lima to see the quantity of things we can offer. Mark Zuckerberg, who is the Facebook founder, was invited too and we are glad to receive them all. It is good to know what will be happening here in Peru in a few days, it is a very important event for Peru to expand even more.
