Francois Schoeman – CEO Zimbali Estate
Zimbali Estate has begun producing its own compost from garden ‘ waste ’ generated from the estate . All pruned branches and trees from landscape maintenance on the estate are taken to this yard , chipped , and the mulch placed into windrows , which over time decompose into rich compost . This compost is being used by the nursery for propagating plants and for planting projects and soil quality enhancement on the estate . This presents a significant cost saving for Zimbali Estate and will also soon be available to residents .
Another remarkable achievement over the past year has been the pioneering by Zimbali Estate of wildlife-friendly perimeter fences . With the installation of eco-passages through the perimeter fence , Zimbali Estate has solved the issue of habitat fragmentation between ecosystems within the estate and habitats outside of the perimeter fence . Without any compromise to security , these eco-passages have proven to be extremely successful , and camera traps have captured many varied small mammals making use of them .
